BURLESQUE FAIRYTALES
Feature Film
Synopsis

“Welcome to Burlesque Fairytales, a night of revelation at Wilton’s Theatre.”

At least that’s what it says on the flyer. But this 1930’s fashionable london audience are in for a surprise. Things are not what they seem at Wilton’s and slowly it dawns on them that this is indeed no ordinary night at the theatre. The audience can not remember how they got there, now that they’ve arrived, the doors to the theatre are bolted shut. They are trapped inside.

Henry Clark is the first to notice something’s going on. He is with his three children, wondering why his wife hasn’t arrived yet. He doesn’t yet know that they will not see each other again. His boss is also at the theatre tonight. Mr Blythe-Smith, many years Henry’s senior, holds himself like a gentleman but soon reveals his true nature; a short sighted, arrogant man. He assumes authority over all things, including his beautiful wife Annabel. He has no idea that she will leave him tonight.

Annabel’s sister Grace is embracing new liberations for women after the Great War. She threatens Blythe-Smith and enjoys it, but secretly she fears him. His behaviour with her during the half time performance interval reveals she has every reason to.

Grace catches the eye of brash American Jimmy Harrison. Despite his fun loving appearance, Jimmy in fact guides all the characters towards their revelations. He is a stranger that people can trust and tell their secrets too, even the tight lipped woman in mourning, Mrs Argyle.

As the film progresses in real time, the stage play hosts five Burlesque fairytales. In these tales a mixture of stage, film, animation, giant set pieces and the elements playing out inside in theatre create a fantastical story telling experience. At the heart of each tale is an important message for the audience members. This is personal. The Compere of the show acts as both guide and tormentor.

By the fourth fairytale, the action has become dangerous with two of Henry’s children actually being integrated into the film world of the fairytales. The audience convinced that sorcery is at play, are too frightened to make a stand. Henry understands a far greater power is at work than simply a magician’s tricks.

Blithe-Smith, guided by ignorance, demands answers. He discovers much too late that he has finally met his match. At the moment of truth, he fails to be enlightened and so is cast into a hellish reality; an eternity alone.

LA MADRINA
Feature Film
The Treatment

'LA MADRINA' IS THE ADAPTATION OF THE TRUE LIFE STORY OF ONE WOMAN WHO BECAME AN ITALIAN MAFIA BOSS, LA MADRINA – THE GODMOTHER.

Meet Maria. She's a good Italian wife. She knows what her brother does for a living, she knows her husband is involved. She keeps her mouth shut and sends her sons away to study abroad in the hope that they stay away from trouble. That is, until the police come.

She's afraid and goes to her sister Rosetta. Rosetta enjoys the kudos and the money that being part of the Guimaro family brings her. She has a weakness for high profile affairs. She tells her sister:

"YOU'RE TALKING CRAZY MARIA. PEOPLE KNOW WHO YOU ARE, DON'T BE SCARED. WE HIDE BEHIND OUR MEN, THIS IS HOW IT WORKS."

"AND WHEN OUR MEN ARE GONE ROSETTA, WHAT THEN?"

Backed into a dangerous corner, Maria must make a decision, to disappear quietly, or to come our fighting. It's terrifying to see what a mother will do to protect her family and that possibly, she might come to enjoy it.

But Maria’s not the only woman taking charge. Signora Lo Russo, also known as Grandma Heroin ran three generations of drug dealing under her roof and when the police finally caught her, she was on a drug run, she was 67 years old.

LA MADRINA charts the 15 years from the MAXI trials in the eighties in which over 400 mafia men were locked up leaving the path open for their female counterparts, right up to Maria's real life arrest just 2 years ago.

The script dives like an American thriller but has the passion and sentiment of European cinema. Perhaps the most frightening of all, is that it's all true.

“Missing word: A woman who outlives her husband is a widow, a man without a wife a widower, a child without parents an orphan. But what do you call the father and mother of a child who has died?”

Set in modern day Britain, Leo’s working on a building site, dreaming of going to art school, when he meets Michela, a feisty Spaniard working her way round Europe playing guitar in bars.

“That’s it. That’s the moment. That’s when I first met your mother,” Leo tells the small figure playing with his keys in the darkness. She looks like a little girl, only when she turns to camera is it revealed that he’s talking to a life size puppet doll.

A mixed match, Leo and Michela fall in love and struggle to find common ground between the expressive Mediterranean culture and the quieter British temperament. Michela falls pregnant, Leo becomes a father. Imogen comes into the world. Imogen dies. In a desperate attempt to avoid facing up to her death Leo retreats into an imagined fantasy in which he still talks with his daughter, returned to him in a frighteningly realistic puppet doll.

HUNTED
Synopsis
Feature Film

“Kidnap Show Girl to stand trial in the US”
(taken from The Times Newspaper Sept 2004)

A FORMER Las Vegas showgirl who spent 15 years on the run with her son after accusing the father of child abuse is to be extradited to the United States on charges of parental kidnapping. She now faces up to six years in jail. The extradition order was approved by Jack Straw and upheld by David Blunkett.

Sounds like an open and shut case. That’s what this reputable newspaper report would have you belief. What if I told you this was all lies?

I’d like you to meet Michelle. She’s a dance teacher at an expensive country club in the west of England. A far cry from the bright lights and seedy punters of Vegas, her ‘clients’ are middle aged women looking to keep trim for society dinners. 15 years ago she packed a suitcase, left behind a lucrative business, a blossoming career and went on the run with her three year old son.

She’s been on run ever since. Cut off from her family. Phone calls in the middle of night “Michelle they know where you are, go,” and the less friendly, “It’s the FBI, we’re coming for you.” Desperation, Poverty, Loneliness. This has been Michele’s living nightmare.

Let’s clear some things up. Michele has never been a ‘table-dancer.’ She was a happily married young woman with a little boy living well off the proceeds of a lighting company based in Vegas. That was until she walked in on her husband abusing their son.

Michele went to court. The judge ruled that she would be the main carer for the children but that her husband would have access of the weekends. Her husband’s lawyer and the judge were golfing buddies. Michelle panicked. She could have stayed, remained financially well taken care of, continuing her choreography career all at the cost of pretending she saw nothing. Instead, Michele ran.

She’s been running ever since. Her son’s grown up in her care. Now the FBI wants to see her locked up. That’s what they told her. That’s what she was facing just six months ago.

Do you believe in miracles? Or maybe just a bitter sweet dose of karma. After being actively pursued by American authorities for the past 15 years, she received one last call from them. Her file has been accidentally destroyed, the case against her dropped, she is a free woman.

In one month, Michele will return to the country that hunted her for so long. Her daughter’s had three children Michele has never seen, it’s time to go home but as she walks through customs she’ll be shaking, remembering the past 15 years. This is where her story begins.

Inside Eve puts the audience in the heart of this relationship. It’s honest, explicit and the scenes will be written to run longer than traditional dramas. Above all, it cannot feel contrived, sculpted, cut and paste viewing. If the sexual scenes are to be woven into the story naturally, it can’t be played sensationally, it must feel real, honest, recognisable. Whilst Nick and Evey push their relationship further than many of us would in the real world, this fictional reality must feel within reach of modern, urban relationships today.

In one woman’s story is all women. Common experiences and emotions reveal universal truths about the sexual side to our nature often talked about but rarely truly heard. This is your chance to listen…Your chance to be Inside Eve.
